Terms & Conditions

Last updated: May 28, 2026

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Document Redactor. By continuing to use the service you confirm that you have read, understood, and accepted these Terms. If you disagree with any part, please do not use the service.

1. About Document Redactor

Document Redactor ("we," "our," or "us") is a web-based platform that provides AI-powered document redaction using local models. We never send your documents to third-party AI vendors such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or any external inference API. Detection runs on Stanford BERT models hosted entirely in our own infrastructure.

2. Eligibility

The service is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years of age and legally able to enter into a contract in your jurisdiction.

3. Account Registration

Some features require an account. When you register, you commit to:

  • Supplying truthful and up-to-date details
  • Keeping your login credentials private
  • Being accountable for everything that happens under your account, whether or not you authorised it

4. Acceptable Use

When using Document Redactor you must not:

  • Break any law or regulation that applies to you
  • Upload content you have no legal right to process
  • Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any part of our infrastructure, or try to extract source code
  • Bypass or manipulate credit quotas, rate limits, or other protective controls

5. Document Processing & Data Handling

Documents you upload are processed on our infrastructure using local AI models. We do not use third-party AI inference APIs.

  • Files are kept only while you are actively working on them. Completed redactions are auto-deleted from our storage 2 hours after processing. Sessions inactive for 24 hours are purged automatically.
  • You can delete sessions manually at any time.
  • Office formats (DOC, DOCX, ODT) are converted to PDF inside our cluster before redaction — conversion also happens within our infrastructure with no third-party involvement.
  • We do not retain, train on, or otherwise use the content of your documents beyond providing the redaction service.

6. Subscription and Payment

Subscription plans are described at documentredactor.com/#pricing. Payments are processed through Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record.

  • Billing unit: 1 document credit covers up to 5 pages or 10 MB, whichever comes first.
  • Plans: Lite (10 credits/mo, €10/mo), Basic (100 credits/mo, €29/mo), Enterprise (1,000 credits/mo, €99/mo), and Enterprise+ (10,000 credits/mo, €499/mo). Yearly plans provide 12x the monthly quota at approximately 30% off.
  • Renewal: subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing cycle unless you cancel. You may cancel at any time from your account; remaining credits stay active until the end of the period you already paid for.
  • Quota: when your credits run out, redaction is blocked until you upgrade or the next billing cycle begins. There are no surprise overage charges.
  • Refunds: all payments are non-refundable unless otherwise agreed in writing or required by applicable law.

We do not store your payment card details. That information is provided directly to Lemon Squeezy, whose use of your information is governed by their Privacy Policy.

7. Compliance Profiles

We ship detection presets aligned with HIPAA Safe Harbor + NIST 800-122 (US profile) and GDPR personal-data categories (EU profile). These are detection configurations, not compliance certifications — your own usage and contracts determine your regulatory posture. Contact us if you need a BAA or DPA.

8. Data Location & Sovereignty

Document Redactor is an EU-based company. All data — including uploaded documents, account information, and processing infrastructure — is hosted exclusively in European Union data centres by default.

Enterprise and Enterprise+ customers who require cloud data sovereignty in a specific region or jurisdiction can contact us at contact@documentredactor.com to discuss dedicated deployment options.

9. Intellectual Property

You retain all rights to the documents you upload and the redacted output we produce. We claim no ownership over your content. The Document Redactor name, logo, and associated branding are our property.

10. Termination

We may suspend or close accounts that breach these Terms or that we reasonably believe are being misused. You are free to delete your account whenever you choose — no notice period required. Self-service account deletion is available from the account menu in the application; this permanently removes your account, all uploaded documents, redaction history, and billing records.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

Document Redactor is provided on an "as-is, as-available" basis. We work hard to keep the service reliable, but we do not promise uninterrupted operation, complete detection of every piece of sensitive information, or fitness for a particular regulatory requirement. Always review the redacted output yourself before treating it as final.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, Document Redactor and its team are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages — including lost revenue, lost data, or business interruption — arising from your use of or inability to use the service. This applies regardless of the legal theory (contract, tort, negligence, or otherwise) and even if we were advised such damages were possible. Our total aggregate liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.

13. Indemnification

You agree to defend and compensate Document Redactor against any third-party claims, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) that result from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the service.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as the service evolves. The latest version will always be available at documentredactor.com/terms. For substantial changes we will give you advance notice by email or a banner inside the app before they take effect.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the European Union and the applicable member state where we operate, without regard to conflict of law principles.

16. Contact Us
